Hampshire Brewery was founded in 1992 amidst the modern revolution of new independent craft breweries in England. In a short period of time it has developed a strong reputation for the production of high quality and consistent products; supported by original and distinctive marketing. The Brewery operates as a Limited Company. Hampshire Brewery has a small team of highly focused staff who are very passionate about beer. The team have worked in the Brewing Industry for many years and enjoy the challenge of creating new beers in addition to striving to improve the quality of the core range of beers and the service we offer our customers. |
The original brew "King Alfred's" took its name from Alfred the Great who reigned in the ninth century and whose Parliament was based in Andover, the original home of the brewery. The later brews continued the theme of noble Kings of England; "Lionheart", "Ironside", "Pendragon" and "1066". In September 1997, the Brewery relocated to larger premises in Romsey to facilitate growing demand for its beers. To celebrate, a new brew was created - "Pride of Romsey" and it was immediately entered into the 1998 International Brewing Industry Awards, where it won Bronze in the Strong cask ale category. In the same year it also won Bronze at the Great British Beer Festival for bottle conditioned ales. The bottle conditioned version has since won the distinction of winning a medal at three successive G.B.B.F.s. |
In April 2000 it was awarded the Gold Medal in the IBIA category for Strong Ales as well as Hampshire Beer of the Year. Romsey is best known for Strong & Co., the brewery which was founded in 1858 and eventually closed in 1979. In April 1999, Hampshire Brewery was delighted to re-launch "Strong’s Best Bitter" to much local acclaim. In 2004 at the Great British Beer Festival in Olympia, “Ironside” won the Gold medal in the Best Bitter category and the Bronze in the Overall Champion Beer of Britain award. Hampshire Brewery has always valued links with the local community and is committed to supporting local initiatives such as Farmer’s Markets and local food festivals. |
